5 Tips To Find The Best Freelance Talent For You

THINGS TO FOCUS ON WHEN CONSIDERING A FREELANCER…

1.) THEIR WORK
LOVE IT! Not just the person who recommended them. See, you and your friend/colleague who told you about the freelancer may like and need very different things. Make sure YOU love their work for YOUR purposes.

2.) THEIR RESPONSIVENESS
You don’t want to hire someone who leaves you hanging, no matter how good they are. The best freelancers over-communicate, create schedules, manage expectations, and NEVER make you hunt them down.

3.) THEIR RATE
You typically get what you pay for, so if their rate is higher than you usually pay but everything else is a win, you might want to get cool with their rate, or get what you pay for with someone else. That said, many freelancers will adjust their rate for a project they’re excited to feature in their portfolio, if they’re not super busy with other clients, or if they really believe in your brand, etc… Freelancers aren’t unfeeling, they just gotta eat ; )

4.) THEIR EXPERIENCE
Not only experience in their field, but as a freelancer. Someone who hasn’t worked for themselves before may be great at their craft, but the way they run their business might leave much to be desired. Some people are naturals right out of the chute, but know that this engagement may be risky if they’re not.

5.) YOUR CONNECTION
Like any relationship, it’s a relationship. Do you LIKE them? You don’t have to but it definitely helps. Are they easy to talk to? Do they listen? Are they overbearing or super quiet? Does anything about them really friggin’ bug you? It may not be the end of the world, and you CAN keep your interactions to a minimum, but it wouldn’t suck to have a pleasant call now and again.

Best luck out there, gang. This gig economy ain’t going anywhere so check our checklist whenever you need to hire the perfect pro (hint: there’s a bunch on our site).
